If you don't LOVE the core gameplay (FPS time moves only when you do) for the sake of it, and the abilities+boosts+level variety isn't enough for you, then you will be less willing to play through levels that unlock more modes and I wouldn't expect you to ever reach the "end" of the game.Īll together there's about 15 sandbox maps, 4 guns and 3 boss types all repeated ad nauseum for hours. Unfortunately that doesn't really excuse the fact that this game becomes tiresome It just happens that the in game character aligns with gamers in general, but that character is NOT the player themselves because that character has its own history (as little as it may seem) - The game never interacts with the player themselves outside of the context of the character - If it did then that would be fourth wall.

If in that case you replace the character as someone with their own history who happens to play SUPERHOT, and replacing the talking NPC with a computer/AI writing text or someone on a network writing text, then that is still the same as an NPC talking to a character - Not talking to the player directly. If you are playing an FPS game as a specific character in an FPS, and some NPC talks to that character, then that does not mean that the game is breaking the fourth wall because it still makes context in the medium of interactive video games. I disagree that it is "breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the gamer". There are some misconceptions that I want to clear up:īreaking the forth wall and talking directly to the gamer is always an interesting setup for a game and it's direction. There is only so much story/lore that can be interesting about a gamer in a plain world who is obsessively playing an addictive FPS - I guess I really tempered my lore expectations having recognized that premise. So you may be a victim of your own expectations to some extent. The game literally warned you that its gameplay loop that it gave you a taste of at first would be more or less of the same of what you initially played in-game. However, that question mark could've been a warning of sorts that it may not take its own story very deep. To be fair to you, the game's own description does say once "More story. They open the game by clearly telling you "are you sure you want to continue? It's just more and more of the same. The intro to the game makes it seem like the story/lore behind it will be expansive and deep but it all just falls flat. So, I enjoyed this game but only for 3-4 hours, after that I was quite boredĭid you play the first game, SUPERHOT? If so, how was that different for you? There are some misconceptions you have shared about the game that I want to set the record straight on though.

TL DR: I guess I wonder if you actually liked the core gameplay itself (FPS time moves when you do), aside from how levels & their abilities were presented, because I don't blame anyone for stopping to play a game because of them not liking core gameplay.
